Millions of Americans are embracing a month-long alcohol ban, known as “Dry January.” General Manager Jada Jones at Frog Juice Boocherie in Knoxville says it’s especially beneficial during the winter season when people tend to consume more sugar and engage in excessive drinking. The dry month can lead to improved sleep, weight loss, and lower blood pressure.
For regular drinkers, quitting cold turkey can be challenging. However, having a sober space allows socializing without the pressures of consuming toxins. Experts recommend planning alternative activities, finding drink substitutes, and connecting with fellow participants to make the experience more manageable.
Completing Dry January can yield long-term benefits, such as reducing drinking frequency and consumption. A study by the American Psychological Association found that six months after completing the challenge, participants reported drinking one day less per week and consuming fewer drinks daily.
