Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, will not feature proximity chat due to concerns about player toxicity. This decision was confirmed by the game’s director, who cited the need for a safe environment where players can focus on the game without harassment.
The game, which is set to launch in September, will allow players to scavenge the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV and battle rival teams and hostile security forces. Players will be able to choose from a roster of cybernetic mercenaries with unique abilities and customize their playstyle with the equipment they collect.
Bungie’s decision not to include proximity chat initially is aimed at preventing toxic behavior, which can ruin the experience for other players. The company hopes that by creating a safe space, it will be able to foster a positive community around the game.
Marathon will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. With its competitive gameplay and multiple maps, players of all skill levels can enjoy the experience. Despite some bumps during development, Bungie is confident that the game is nearing launch.
