Rwanda has declared the end of its Marburg virus outbreak, following the recovery of the last patient 42 days ago. According to Health Minister Sabin Nsanzimana, this marks the end of the outbreak as per World Health Organization guidelines.
The East African country reported 66 confirmed cases and 15 deaths since mid-September, with 51 recoveries. The health ministry made the announcement on Friday, citing the last patient’s recovery on December 18.
The declaration comes after a 42-day wait for the last patient to test negative and be discharged. Health Minister Nsanzimana stated that this marks the end of the Marburg outbreak in Rwanda.
