March Madness is known for its excitement and unpredictability, and Thursday was no exception. Several upsets shook the NCAA tournament, sending shockwaves through the brackets.
Creighton dominated No. 8 Louisville in a one-sided affair, leading by 49-34 at halftime and never looking back. The Blue Jays’ early run proved too much for the Cardinals to overcome, securing a 89-75 win.
In another first-round upset, No. 12 McNeese State knocked off No. 5 Clemson 69-67. The Cowboys built a 19-2 lead in the first half and never looked back, becoming the first double-digit seed to advance to the second round.
No. 10 Arkansas continued its resurgence by defeating No. 7 Kansas 79-72. The Razorbacks’ strong team play and turnovers from the Jayhawks proved too much to handle. Jonson Aidoo led the way for Arkansas with 22 points.
Drake took down No. 6 Missouri 67-57, securing its first NCAA tournament victory since 1971. The Bulldogs successfully slowed the pace of their opponents and outscored them in the paint.
Finally, No. 9 Baylor edged out No. 8 Mississippi State 75-72. The Bears’ defense held strong against a game-high 26 points from Josh Hubbard, securing their spot in the second round.
These upsets have set the stage for what promises to be an exciting tournament.
