The NCAA tournament continued on Friday, with many top seeds emerging victorious. Duke freshman Cooper Flagg made his debut after missing a few games, scoring 14 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in a win. Florida, Kentucky, Arizona, and Maryland all rolled to easy victories.
Colorado State became the second No. 12 seed to advance to the second round, but it came against the backdrop of many favored teams coming out on top. The day’s scores included Baylor beating Mississippi State, Alabama dominating Robert Morris, Iowa State dispatching Lipscomb, and UConn holding off Oklahoma.
In other games, Duke defeated Mount St. Mary’s, Saint Mary’s edged Vanderbilt, Ole Miss beat North Carolina, Maryland thrashed Grand Canyon, Florida defeated Norfolk State, Kentucky knocked out Troy, Marquette won against New Mexico, Arizona dominated Akron, Oregon closed out Liberty, Michigan State overpowered Bryant, and Illinois dispatched Xavier.
The only upsets of the day came from Colorado State’s win over Memphis, as well as a few other low-seed teams managing to pull off victories. However, these were largely overshadowed by the dominant performances of the favored teams.
Overall, Friday’s results set the stage for an exciting second round, with many highly seeded teams advancing to their next opponents.
