Nintendo has shared a comprehensive overview of its upcoming racing game, Mario Kart World, which boasts an impressive array of new features, modes, and characters. Here’s what we can expect from the game.
The game will feature a vast, interconnected map with both new and classic courses, including iconic tracks like Mario Bros. Circuit and Rainbow Road. The older courses have been “reimagined to feel at-home within this vast, new world,” offering fresh experiences for returning players.
In terms of characters, up to 24 racers can compete in one race, featuring a diverse cast including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and many others. New techniques like Charge Jump will allow players to dodge enemy attacks, reach higher places, and even jump on rails.
Mario Kart World will have two main modes: Grand Prix and Knockout Tour. The former will require players to compete in multiple races to win cups, while the latter is a battle-royale-like mode where you must be in the correct position at each checkpoint to avoid being eliminated.
The game also features a Free Roam mode, allowing players to drive freely without competition pressure. This mode includes challenges and missions that will improve your skills outside of racing. Additionally, players can visit Yoshi’s restaurant to pick up “Dash Food” for boosts and fun outfits.
Playing with friends is a key aspect of Mario Kart World, offering various multiplayer options, including four-player local wireless play, online play with up to 24 players worldwide, and free-roaming with friends in between races. The game also includes features like GameChat, Photo Mode, and VS Mode with customization options.
New items have been added to the game, such as the Coin Shell, which can knock rivals off course, providing a trail of coins for collection. Other new items include an Ice Flower to freeze enemies, Hammers to attack and block paths, a Mega Mushroom that grows players to monstrous heights, and a Feather to avoid attacks.
To cater to players of all skill levels, Mario Kart World will feature support features like Smart Steering, Tilt Controls (Joy-Con 2 wheel compatible), Auto-Use Item, Auto-Accelerate, and adjustable camera settings.
