Mark T. Uyeda Named Acting Chairman of SEC

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Mark T. Uyeda as its new Acting Chairman, following a designation by President Donald J. Trump. Uyeda was sworn into office as a Commissioner in June 2022 and has since been serving in various capacities, including Senior Advisor to the previous Chairman Jay Clayton.

Uyeda’s appointment marks a significant change at the agency, which is responsible for protecting investors, maintaining fair markets, and facilitating capital formation. A seasoned lawyer with experience in corporate law, Uyeda worked as an attorney at prominent firms before joining the SEC. He has also served on detail to senior leadership at the U.S. Department of Treasury and the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking.

Born in Orange County, California, Uyeda holds a degree from Georgetown University and is a graduate of Duke University Law School. He has received several awards for his contributions to the Asian Pacific community, including the Daniel K. Inouye Trailblazer Award from the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. With his extensive experience at the SEC, Uyeda will now lead the agency in its efforts to promote innovation and protect investors.
