Mark Zuckerberg Criticizes Apple for Lack of Technical Innovation

Mark Zuckerberg criticized Apple for lacking technical innovation since the iPhone’s launch in 2007 on Joe Rogan’s podcast. While acknowledging the iPhone was a good thing for getting smartphones into people’s hands, Zuckerberg argued that Apple’s business practices have been disappointing.

Zuckerberg stated that Apple has used its platform to implement arbitrary rules, such as taking 30% of profits from apps on the iOS App Store. He also criticized the company’s limitations on third-party devices working seamlessly with iPhones like AirPods.

The Meta CEO noted that despite slowing iPhone sales, Apple continues to make money through these restrictions. Zuckerberg described how this approach “hamstrings” the ability for others to create competing products that can connect to iPhones in a similar way.

Zuckerberg also mentioned the Apple Vision Pro headset, which, although initially met with anticipation, has reportedly seen low demand, leading to reduced production. This criticism comes from Zuckerberg’s perspective as the CEO of a company making competing headsets.
