The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 0.4% to revisit the 45,000 level before closing below it. Blue chips briefly topped the new milestone but settled lower.
The Nasdaq led the way, adding 0.8% as tech-heavy stocks rose. The S&P 500 bolstered its gain to 0.6%, topping the 6,000 level, and remained above its 21-day exponential moving average. Small-cap stocks on the Russell 2000 gained 0.4%.
Bitcoin reversed losses after rising above $97,000, with some bitcoin stocks experiencing gains but surrendering them by day’s end. Biotech stock ADMA Biologics plummeted nearly 8% in above-average volume.
Nvidia led the Dow Jones component gain and was added back to IBD SwingTrader. Tesla jumped on the market, attempting to break a three-day losing streak. Applied Materials climbed as it approached its 21-day line.
The U.S. stock market closed early due to Thanksgiving Day, but the bond market stays open until 2 p.m. ET Friday.
