Marlins Edge Pirates with Walk-Off Win

The Miami Marlins defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 on Saturday night, with Dane Myers delivering a game-winning RBI single in the 12th inning. Myers also made a crucial throwout at home plate to help secure the win.

Myers’ opposite-field drive to right-center off Tim Mayza tied the game and gave the Marlins their second walk-off victory in three days. Kyle Stowers also had three hits for Miami, while George Soriano earned his first win despite allowing two hits.

The Pirates, who were tied at 3-3 after seven innings, struggled with base running. Oneil Cruz dropped a flyball near the wall to load the bases, and Xavier Edwards was forced out at home before Myers’ winning hit. Griffin Conine made a highlight-reel catch in the seventh inning, robbing Jack Suwinski of a potential home run.

The Marlins have scored five runs over the last two games, including the walk-off win against the Pirates. However, they have also struggled with base stealing, committing 14 steals in three games, including six on Saturday. Andrew Heaney makes his Pirates debut against Max Meyer and the Marlins on Sunday’s finale of the teams’ season-opening series.
