The Geminid meteor shower is one of the most prolific showers of the year, known for bright and colorful meteors. Despite the almost full moon this year, it put on a dazzling show that delighted skywatchers worldwide.
Photographer Osama Fathi captured stunning images of the Geminid meteor shower from Egypt’s Black Desert on December 8. His photo shows Jupiter shining brightly amidst the meteors, with the old mudbrick dovecote adding an authentic touch to the image.
Astronomers with Japan’s Subaru Telescope in Hawaii captured a breathtaking image of over 100 Geminid meteors streaking across star trails in a long-exposure view. The observatory’s camera managed to capture most meteors despite the bright moonlight.
