Marvel Rivals Gains 10 Million Players on Opening Weekend

Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play six-on-six team shooter from Chinese giant NetEase, has made a supercharged start with 10 million players joining the game over its opening weekend. Launched last Friday for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, the game features a roster of current and upcoming Marvel characters, including Iron Man, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Wolverine, Groot, Iron Fist, Cloak and Dagger, and Squirrel Girl.

The gameplay has drawn comparisons to Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch. However, former Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra suggested that Marvel Rivals may have borrowed elements from both Overwatch and Horizon Zero Dawn, sparking controversy over a character’s design. Despite this, the game’s impressive opening weekend numbers indicate a promising start for the new title in the gaming world.
