Marvel Rivals, one of the top-grossing games this year, has laid off a team from its Seattle-based studio. Despite the move, the game continues to draw hundreds of thousands of players on Steam and remains one of the most played games on platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Steam.
Game director Thaddeus Sasser recently posted about the layoffs on LinkedIn, stating that his team was “stunned” by the decision. The affected team worked on introducing new level design mechanics, gameplay, and other features to the game’s superhero shooter mode.
Marvel Rivals has seen incredible success since its release, with over 200,000 concurrent players regularly hovering around it for top spot on Steam. This week, the game will enter its second half of the first season and introduce two new heroes, the Thing and Human Torch, to the roster.
