The University of Maryland men’s basketball team is set to face off against underdog Colorado State on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Terps, who defeated No. 13-seed Grand Canyon 32 points ago, are looking to make a deep run in the tournament and will be facing their toughest challenge yet.
Colorado State, a No. 12-seed, has already made history by pulling off an upset win over top-seeded Memphis. The Rams have been on a hot streak all season, winning 10 games in a row, including a Mountain West Tournament championship. Seventh-year head coach Niko Medved has led his team to this point with his team’s ball movement and talent.
The Rams’ lineup is led by Nique Clifford, who nearly averages a double-double as a guard, with players Kyan Evans and Jalen Lake also making key contributions. Colorado State’s strength lies in their ability to set up teammates through pass-heavy play, but they have struggled on the defensive end, particularly in blocking shots.
The Terps will be looking to exploit this weakness and get going early in the game. After struggling with turnovers at times throughout the year, Maryland has committed fewer than 10 turnovers in five of its last six contests.
Sunday’s matchup between Maryland and Colorado State will air live on TBS from Seattle, starting at 7:10 EDT. The Terps are looking to bounce back from their first-round loss and make a deep run in the tournament with this underdog opponent.
