Toronto Raptors president and vice chairman Masai Ujiri was let go on Friday after 13 years with the franchise. Ujiri, who led the team to its only NBA championship in 2019, had been with the organization since 2013 and had his contract ending next year.
Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) president and CEO Keith Pelley released a statement saying that Ujiri “has helped transform the organization on and off the court” and was an inspirational leader. The team has announced plans to start searching for Ujiri’s successor immediately, with Bobby Webster taking over as president.
Bobby Webster received a contract extension, but terms were not disclosed. The Raptors finished last season 30-52 and missed the playoffs. Pelley expressed confidence in Webster’s ability to lead the team to success in its rebuild plan.
