A mass shooting at a bar and restaurant in the Turks and Caicos Islands has left three people dead and 10 injured. The incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on July 27 at the Islands Hookah and Cigar Lounge in Providenciales.
Police Commissioner Fitz Bailey described the event as “deeply disturbing” and said it was the first of its kind in recent memory. Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while 10 others suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious.
As of July 28, two people had been discharged from hospital, leaving one victim in serious condition. Authorities have not announced any arrests or confirmed suspects in the shooting.
Bailey stated that police are working with local and international partners to bring perpetrators to justice and urged anyone with information to contact them. A $10,000 reward is being offered through Crime Stoppers for tips related to the incident.
The shooting comes as the U.S. State Department has updated a Level 2 travel advisory for Turks and Caicos due to crime concerns in Providenciales, the nation’s most populated island.
