A Massachusetts-based hospital, Anna Jaques Hospital (AJH), fell victim to a cyber attack last year, exposing the data of over 316,000 patients. The breach occurred on Christmas Day in 2023 and resulted in the theft of 600GB of data.
Ransomware gang Money Message compromised the hospital’s systems, causing disruptions during the holiday season. The hospital’s electronic records system was knocked out, while ambulance services were also affected during Christmas.
AJH serves a large patient population in Merrimack Valley, North Shore, and Southern New Hampshire, employing nearly 5,000 physicians and 39,000 employees. In response to the breach, the hospital is distributing breach notification letters to those affected, indicating that an investigation has been conducted with external cybersecurity experts.
The investigation was completed in early November 2024, but details on the exposed data remain unknown. The only information provided by AJH is that names and personal identifiers may have been compromised.
