Apple has introduced a new Camera Control button on the iPhone 16, allowing users to launch the Camera app instantly and access various photo settings with minimal finger movement. This feature simplifies the camera experience, making it more convenient and efficient.
To get started, open the Camera App by pressing the Camera Control button. To avoid accidental inputs, go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control and select “Double Click” under “Launch Camera.” Alternatively, press the button once to wake up the lock screen, which then launches the Camera app when the screen is lit.
Holding the button lightly reveals a clean preview of the subject, while retaining the side overlay for zoom level highlighting. However, you can turn off this feature within Settings > Camera > Camera Control by pressing the toggle beside Clean Preview. To capture a photo, simply click or engage the light-press function, which changes the overlay width.
The button also supports slide gestures to adjust the zoom level. Slide up to zoom in and down to zoom out, with the changing levels displayed as an overlay on the screen. The phone switches through camera lenses during zooming.
To access advanced camera features, lightly double-press the button, followed by sliding up/down between options. This allows you to select from exposure, depth, photographic styles, and tones. Customize the light-press force within Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control, or change what the button does in Settings > Camera > Camera Control.
The Camera Control feature also offers a convenient way to open the Magnifier or QR Code Scanner app. To do this, go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control and select the required option from the list of apps at the bottom of the screen. Additionally, you can program the button to launch third-party camera apps like Snapchat or Instagram.
As the feature continues to evolve, it’s set to integrate with Visual Intelligence, a point-and-search function that gathers information about objects or places by fetching online listings and reviews. This feature will be available alongside the iOS 18.2 update.
