Warner Bros has made changes to its release schedule for upcoming films, including the highly-anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The movie is now set to premiere on October 1, 2027, rather than October 2, 2026. Production is not expected to start until late summer.
The change comes after Warner Bros had previously secured the opening weekend of October 2027 for a DC title. However, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled movie with Tom Cruise will now take its place on October 2, 2026.
The sequel to The Batman was a commercial success, grossing $369.3 million domestically and $772 million worldwide. It also spawned a Max series, The Penguin, which became the third-most-watched HBO or Max debut season globally.
Warner Bros is making room for Iñárritu’s movie, which will be presented in IMAX like its predecessor. The Legendary production stars Tom Cruise alongside Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
In other changes to the release schedule, Mickey 17 has been pushed back to March 7 in IMAX, while Sinners is now set for April 18 with IMAX screens as well. Warner Bros still owns the opening weekend of October with its 2019 film The Joker.
Sinners follows twin brothers who return to their hometown after trying to leave their troubled lives behind, only to discover an even greater evil waiting for them. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Hailee Steinfeld and Robert Pattinson.
Meanwhile, Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon Ho, has been moved three weeks after the Valentine’s Day combo of Disney/Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World and Sony/StudioCanal’s Paddington in Peru.
