Mattel Sued Over “Wicked” Dolls with Mysterious Porn Website Link

Mattel, the maker of Barbie and Hot Wheels toys, is being sued over a batch of “Wicked” dolls that mistakenly linked to a pornographic website on their packaging. A South Carolina woman, Holly Ricketson, has filed a proposed class action lawsuit against Mattel in Los Angeles federal court.

Ricketson claims she bought a Wicked doll for her daughter and was horrified when the girl visited the wrong website shown on the packaging with an iPhone. The website, “Wicked.com”, displayed explicit advertisements instead of the intended content related to the movie musical “Wicked”.

Mattel has apologized for the error and corrected the packaging at retailers. However, Ricketson’s lawsuit alleges that Mattel did not offer refunds to customers who had already purchased the dolls, despite being directed to an adult website.

Ricketson’s attorney says the company broke parents’ trust by exposing children to potentially harmful content. The lawsuit seeks compensation for the damaged dolls and holds Mattel accountable for ensuring all aspects of its products are safe for young children.

The incident is related to the hit Broadway musical “Wicked” and its film adaptation, which has grossed over $365 million worldwide.
