Mavericks Assistant Coach Arrested for Aggravated Assault

Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong has been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He allegedly used a gun to hit a woman in an argument and threatened to shoot her on Saturday morning, according to the Dallas Police Department.

Armstrong, 56, was placed on administrative suspension by the team pending further investigation into the incident. The Mavericks released a statement saying they are “gathering all relevant information” and will allow the legal process to run its course before making any further comments.

The victim had previously reported multiple violent incidents with Armstrong, but chose not to pursue action because she did not want him to lose his job. Armstrong has been with the Mavericks since 2009, initially joining as a player development coach. He played in the NBA for 14 seasons and won several awards during his career before becoming a coach.
