Mavs Assistant Coach Arrested on Aggravated Assault Charge

Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong, 56, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after an incident involving his girlfriend. The arrest occurred on Saturday at around 3:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of Ross Ave. in Downtown Dallas.

According to police reports, Armstrong and his girlfriend were in an argument when he allegedly hit her in the face with a gun. He then threatened to shoot her while she was on the phone with another person. The victim reported that Armstrong had been drinking before the incident began.

Armstrong has been placed on administrative suspension by the team pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. His lawyer, Larry Taylor, stated that his client is an upstanding member of the Dallas community and will cooperate with any investigation.

The aggravated assault charge carries a second-degree felony penalty, which includes a jail term of 2 to 20 years. The incident is currently under review by the appropriate authorities.

Armstrong’s playing career spanned several countries and leagues, including the NBA, Global Basketball Association, and Cyprus. This marks his 10th season as an assistant coach with the Mavericks.
