The New York Knicks are struggling to find their next coach after Tom Thibodeau’s firing, with each of the top candidates turning down an interview. The latest coach to decline is Jason Kidd, who leads the Dallas Mavericks, according to reports. Kidd, 52, has coached in five NBA seasons and was the leader of a team that reached the 2024 NBA Finals.
The Knicks’ search for a new coach began after losing to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. With Thibodeau’s firing less than a year after signing an extension, New York is now looking at several candidates, including Chris Finch and Ime Udoka. However, none of them have agreed to be interviewed.
Other teams, such as the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Denver Nuggets, have also filled their coaching vacancies, leaving only the Knicks’ job available. The Phoenix Suns recently hired Jordan Ott, a former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach, to be their new coach.
Kidd’s decision is not surprising given his recent success with the Mavericks. Finch and Udoka are also highly regarded coaches in the league. However, it seems that none of them want to join the Knicks at this time. The team will continue its search for a coach who can lead them back to the top after their first conference finals appearance in 25 years under Thibodeau.
