Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his right thumb. The move comes after Scherzer left his debut start with Toronto three innings ago due to right lat soreness, which he attributed to lingering thumb pain.
Scherzer said solving the thumb issue is his top priority and that it’s crucial for arm health. He expressed frustration about the ongoing problem and hopes visiting a hand specialist in the U.S. will reset him. The 40-year-old signed a one-year contract worth $15.5 million earlier this year.
The Blue Jays have recalled left-hander Easton Lucas and selected lefty Mason Fluharty from Triple-A Buffalo to bolster their pitching staff.
