Maxx Crosby, a standout pass rusher for the Las Vegas Raiders, has been named the assistant general manager of Eastern Michigan’s football program. This move makes him the first active NFL player to hold the position.
Crosby will be responsible for evaluating high school and portal prospects, managing the team’s name, image, and likeness (NIL) budget, and serving as a special assistant to the fundraising, alumni relations, and student-athlete support departments.
“I’m honored to be named Assistant GM of EMU,” Crosby said in a statement. “I believe that my experience on the field will help me better understand the needs of our program and make informed decisions.”
Crosby’s connection to Eastern Michigan runs deep. As one of the best defensive players in school history, he set records for career sacks and tackles for loss during his time there.
The Raiders rewarded Crosby with a three-year, $106.5 million contract extension in March, further solidifying his commitment to the team.
In addition to his new role, Crosby launched the “Maxx Match,” a fundraising challenge that will match all donations made before May 31st, up to $100,000.
“This is a transformative moment for our football program,” said athletic director Scott Wetherbee. “Crosby’s passion and generosity are inspiring, and we’re building a better football program and stronger future for EMU athletics.”
Crosby joins other NFL players in taking on leadership roles with NCAA teams. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry recently became the assistant general manager at Davidson College, his alma mater.
