McDonald’s is closing three of its newly-opened CosMc’s spinoff locations just a year after launching its first, but promises to open more. The company announced the closures in a press statement, citing that the concept works better in smaller spaces.
CosMc’s is a small format concept from McDonald’s, featuring a unique space-themed aesthetic and limited menu items such as teas, lemonades, coffees, and signature energy-style drinks. In its first month of operation, one location reported a significant increase in visitors per square foot compared to an average McDonald’s.
Since December 2023, CosMc’s has opened seven locations across Texas, with the majority located in Dallas and Fort Worth. The company plans to open two new smaller format stores in Texas in 2025.
The closures are not a sign that CosMc’s is going under, as two new locations will be built in their stead. McDonald’s learned that the smaller format stores allow for testing of new, unique circumstances reflective of its customer base.
Some popular items on the CosMc’s menu include the Turmeric Spiced Latte, S’mores Cold Brew, Churro Frappe, and Sour Cherry Energy Burst. The company also reported a strong interest in its limited food menu, which features a Spicy Queso Sandwich and Savory Hash Brown Bites.
While the exact locations of the closing CosMc’s stores are not publicly disclosed, the company has announced plans to open more locations in 2025.
