McDonald’s E. coli Outbreak Over, CDC Says 104 Sickened

A US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) investigation into an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers has concluded, with all affected individuals reportedly recovering.

The outbreak, caused by contaminated onions supplied by Taylor Farms, sickened 104 people across 14 states in October. Thirty-four were hospitalized due to the severe strain of E. coli O157:H7, which can lead to “very serious disease”.

One person died as a result of the infection, prompting McDonald’s to temporarily remove the Quarter Pounder from its menu at over half of its US restaurants.

The burger chain has since resumed sales and reintroduced slivered onions from a different supplier into their full menu.
