McDonald’s Settles $10 Billion Lawsuit with Black-Owned Media Company

McDonald’s has reached a settlement in a $10 billion lawsuit brought by Byron Allen’s Allen Entertainment Studios, alleging discrimination against Black-owned media companies. The media mogul accused the fast food chain of maintaining separate advertising tiers for companies creating content targeting Black audiences.

Following a U.S. District Judge Fernando Olguin’s ruling that McDonald’s may have violated federal and state civil rights laws, both parties released a joint statement on Friday announcing their agreement to settle pending litigation.

Under the terms of the confidential commercial agreement, McDonald’s will continue purchasing advertising from Allen Entertainment Studios in accordance with its strategy and objectives, while the company dismisses its lawsuit against McDonald’s.

McDonald’s USA LLC stated that it welcomes ESN’s contributions to improving its system and looks forward to a mutually beneficial arrangement. The settlement brings an end to the trial, which was set to proceed after the judge’s ruling.
