MCG to Host First NFL Game in Asia-Pacific Region

Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will host the first-ever NFL game in the Asia-Pacific region from 2026. The Los Angeles Rams are set to be the designated ‘home’ team for the inaugural game, which has a capacity of approximately 100,000 spectators.

The NFL’s international growth continues with Australia becoming the sixth overseas country to secure regular-season games. This move follows recent successes in South America and Europe, where the league has been rapidly expanding its global reach.

According to Peter O’Reilly, NFL executive vice-president, “International games are one of the most impactful elements of our global strategy.” He expects these games to serve as a catalyst for growing the game year-round at every level.

The Melbourne game is likely to be scheduled in week one of the 2026 season, allowing teams to acclimatize more easily. Further announcements on international games will be made next season, with five already confirmed. The NFL aims to host eight international games in 2025, including a return to Brazil and potential games in Ireland.

The MCG’s hosting of this historic event marks a significant milestone for the NFL’s growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
