McIlroy Stuns With Eagle On Final Day To Close In on Win

Rory McIlroy’s stunning final-day charge saw him fire a brilliant eagle at the par-five eighth hole, helping him leapfrog into contention for the Texas Children’s Houston Open title.

McIlroy was nine strokes off the pace after an opening-hole bogey but responded with three birdies in a four-hole stretch. The Northern Irishman followed up his eagle at the eighth with a 64 to move to 16 under, just one stroke behind leader Min Woo Lee.

Min Woo’s charge was stalled by his second hole, where he found himself six strokes back after a double bogey on the par-five 16th. However, the South Korean birdied the following hole and then recovered from a long way back with an eagle putt at the 17th to take control of the tournament.

Scottie Scheffler also made a late move into contention with three birdies in a row on his final nine holes, but Min Woo Lee maintained his lead. The former US Open champion Gary Woodland continued to impress, with a 35-foot eagle at the par-five 16th putting him alongside Scheffler in second place.

The win would be McIlroy’s first PGA Tour title since the 2020 BMW Championship, and he would head into the Masters tournament with renewed confidence.
