McLaren has achieved a historic milestone, winning their 200th world championship Grand Prix, at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. Lando Norris secured his second consecutive win in Hungary and gave his team a fourth consecutive one-two finish.
The closest margin of victory in a green-flag finish this season was seen in the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Norris edging out teammate Oscar Piastri by just 0.698 seconds. This achievement marks McLaren’s 13th Hungaroring victory, and they have become only the second team to achieve 200 world championship wins.
Norris’ impressive performance saw him finish second in both the 2023 and 2024 Hungarian Grands Prix. His teammate Piastri has had a successful season so far, with eight wins and eight second places. However, Norris ultimately took the top spot on the podium today.
Mercedes-Benz power units dominated the Hungaroring podium for the second year in a row, with George Russell finishing third and Mercedes-Benz locked out of the top three. Charles Leclerc’s fifth consecutive non-win from pole position was another notable statistic, while Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso secured his 13th Hungarian Grand Prix points finish.
Red Bull-owned cars struggled, with Max Verstappen finishing ninth and only 1m 12s behind Norris. Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg failed to score at the Hungaroring for the first time in five years, while Haas’ Oliver Bearman suffered the only retirement of the weekend.
