Measles Alert Issued in Eaton County, MI

A potential case of measles is being investigated in Eaton County, MI. Health officials are warning the public after two restaurants reported visitors who may have been exposed to the highly contagious disease.

The Barry-Eaton District Health Department issued an alert on April 18 for people who visited King Ocean Crab restaurant in Lansing from 6:30-10 p.m. on April 12 and Bad Brads BBQ in Orion Township from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on April 13. People in these areas may have been exposed to measles, which can live up to two hours in the air after an infected person leaves.

Measles is highly contagious, with a 90% chance of infection if not immune. Health officials are urging those who may have been exposed to take action and check their vaccination status. Post-exposure treatment can prevent illness for anyone exposed within the last six days. Visit Michigan’s webpage on immunization information for more vaccine guidance.
