Measles Case Confirmed in Allegan County, Michigan

A confirmed measles case has been announced in Allegan County, but officials say exposure locations are in Kent County. The Allegan County Health Department (ACHD) is investigating and advising those who visited the listed locations during specified times to monitor their symptoms for 21 days after exposure.

Measles can be spread through direct contact or airborne transmission, lasting up to two hours on surfaces. Symptoms appear within 7-14 days but can last up to 21 days.

ACHD recommends getting vaccinated to prevent measles and staying up-to-date on routine vaccinations. Those with potential exposure should consult their healthcare provider or contact ACHD at (269) 673-5411 for guidance.

To prevent illness spread, the department advises taking precautions such as monitoring symptoms and alerting healthcare providers before visiting.
