Measles cases have increased to five in Utah, with two new cases confirmed among pregnant women. The newly diagnosed individuals were unvaccinated and had contact with previously confirmed cases. Public health officials are investigating exposure locations.
Among the total cases, two patients are pregnant, posing a risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, or complications for the unborn baby. Authorities urge pregnant women to receive the measles vaccine, waiting at least four weeks after vaccination before conception.
Measles symptoms appear within seven to 14 days after exposure, with typical signs including high fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes. The measles vaccine remains the most effective prevention method.
