The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 88 new measles cases, bringing the national total to 800. This increase is well on track to surpass the 1,274 cases in 2019, which was the highest since the virus was eliminated in 2000.
Most of these cases are linked to outbreaks, with 94% of patients being unvaccinated or having unknown vaccination status. Hospitalizations have reached 11%, with three deaths reported so far.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) has reported 597 cases, with the majority coming from Gaines County. Other states affected include New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma, all linked to the West Texas outbreak.
Michigan has reported its first measles outbreak in five years, involving three cases in Montcalm County, while Montana has confirmed its first cases since 1990. Investigations are underway to identify potential public exposure sites in these outbreaks.
