Colorado has reported its third measles case of the year, a 39-year-old man from Archuleta County. The patient was exposed to others at several locations, including Wolf Creek Ski Area and City Market, on March 28-30 and March 31.
Those who visited these places during the specified times may have been exposed. Symptoms include fever, cough, itchy or red/watery eyes, followed by a rash that spreads from the head to the body. If you’ve been exposed and are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated, monitor for symptoms for 21 days after exposure.
The Archuleta County patient is almost fully recovered at home. His vaccination status is unknown and won’t be released. Measles is highly contagious and can be severe. Public health officials are urging people to get vaccinated with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, which provides about 97% effectiveness.
Colorado’s high-risk areas include Alaska, California, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, New York State, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Washington.
