Measles Outbreak Confirmed at LAX After Contagious Traveler Spotted

A measles case has been confirmed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) involving a traveler who was in the airport on November 27 while contagious. The individual arrived on Qatar Airways flight QR 0739 and stayed in Terminal B from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The exposure occurred during one of the busiest travel weeks, warning passengers who were in Terminal B or seated on that flight may be at risk. Public Health officials are notifying potential exposure victims and urging them to review their vaccination records.

Measles can spread easily through the air and surfaces, and symptoms may develop 7-21 days after exposure, including high fever, runny nose, and rash. Those who were exposed are advised to seek medical attention if immunocompromised, pregnant, or have an infant. Free or low-cost vaccines are available for those uninsured or underinsured.

The U.S. has seen a significant increase in measles cases this year, with 280 reported as of late November. Officials stress the importance of timely vaccination to prevent further outbreaks.
