Measles Outbreak Confirmed at San Antonio-Area School

A confirmed case of Rubella has been reported at a school in the San Antonio area, prompting concerns about measles exposure. The Texas Department of State Health Services (DHSH) clarified that the infection is not measles, but German measles, which is less contagious.

There are currently no cases of measles reported in San Antonio or surrounding areas. However, an outbreak of measles with over 100 confirmed cases is ongoing across the state, including in San Antonio.

The affected school will remain open on Friday and undergo thorough sanitization after school hours. Parents are advised to check their children’s immunization records and ensure they are up-to-date on all vaccines.

State Representative Alan Schoolcraft stated that small outbreaks of measles are not uncommon and warned against panicking. The health department is investigating the case, which appears to have originated from outside Bexar County.
