A measles case has been confirmed in a resident of Montcalm County, Michigan, according to the Mid-Michigan District Health Department (MMDHD). The person recently traveled out of state and is not vaccinated against measles.
This case is at least the third confirmed in Michigan and one of over 600 cases nationwide as of April 3. Those who are not immune to measles are at risk and should consider getting vaccinated with the MMR vaccine, which provides long-lasting protection.
The virus can spread before symptoms appear, including four days before a rash shows up. Symptoms usually develop within 7-14 days after contact and may take up to 21 days to fully appear.
If you believe you’ve been exposed or are showing symptoms, it’s essential to call your healthcare provider before seeking treatment to prevent further transmission.
