A student at Miami Palmetto Senior High School in Pinecrest has been diagnosed with measles, the first case reported in Miami-Dade County this year. The school is taking precautions and offering free vaccinations to unvaccinated students.
According to a letter sent to parents, the risk of transmission for vaccinated individuals is considered low. However, the school is working with local health authorities to ensure everyone’s safety.
The school will host an MMR immunization drive on March 10, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., allowing unvaccinated students to get vaccinated with parental consent. The Miami-Dade County Health Department will notify parents of students who had close contact with the infected individual.
This case comes amid reports of measles outbreaks in other states and follows cases reported in neighboring Broward County last year.
