A suspected measles case has been reported in an unvaccinated individual in Lee County, Alabama. The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) is investigating and working with local medicine providers to identify others who may need the vaccine.
According to ADPH, the risk of an outbreak is currently low, but some people will be required to get vaccinated as part of the investigation. Dr. Karen Landers, ADPH’s Chief Medical Officer, stressed the importance of vaccination in preventing the spread of measles, stating that the vaccine is safe and highly effective in producing lifelong immunity against the disease.
The investigation continues as ADPH urges eligible individuals to ensure they receive the necessary vaccinations.
