Measles Outbreak Spreads Across 5 States, Killing Dozens

A deadly measles outbreak originating from western Texas has grown to 400 cases as of this week, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services. The number of new cases increased by 70 in less than a week.

Measles is highly contagious and easily preventable through vaccination. In Texas, most cases involve unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status. A child who was not vaccinated died last month due to the outbreak, while 41 others have been hospitalized.

US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s claims about vaccinations have been misleading, initially downplaying the current spread of measles.

The outbreak has now reached 523 cases across five states – Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. The state of Texas continues to lead the count, with warnings from health services indicating additional cases are likely in surrounding areas due to the highly contagious nature of this disease.
