Measles Outbreak Spreads Across US and International Flights

Measles cases linked to international travel have raised concerns across the United States, with recent outbreaks reported in Colorado, California, North Dakota, and Minnesota.

A cluster of six measles cases has been confirmed in El Paso and Arapahoe counties, Colorado, all linked to exposure at Denver International Airport and on a Turkish Airlines flight. The cases include two unvaccinated adults from El Paso County who were on the same flight, as well as a vaccinated adult from Arapahoe County.

In other states, California health officials are investigating a measles infection in an adult who traveled internationally, with potential exposure at US airports and multiple locations in Santa Clara County. North Dakota has reported three more cases, all of which occurred among unvaccinated individuals in Grand Forks and Williams counties. The state’s total number of cases since early May now stands at 32.

Minnesota has also reported two new measles cases, both linked to domestic airline travel outside the state. One case involves an unvaccinated child from Dakota County who contracted the virus while attending the Mall of America theme park. Health officials have expressed concern that measles could be spreading undetected in the community, highlighting the importance of vaccination and public health measures.
