Measles Outbreak Spreads to Grapevine, Texas Officials Warn

Measles has spread to Grapevine, with a contagious patient visiting the area between March 28 and 30, officials confirmed. The infected individual visited the Great Wolf Lodge hotel and waterpark and also spent time at Grapevine Mills Mall on March 29.

A second child in Texas has died from measles pulmonary failure. This is the second confirmed death in the US in a decade. Anyone who was at either location during that time period and is unvaccinated or unsure of their vaccination status is at risk of contracting the virus.

The ongoing Texas measles outbreak, which started in January, now has 481 confirmed cases, with most cases reported in the South Plains and Panhandle regions. At least 56 people have been hospitalized.

Symptoms to watch for include fever above 101 degrees, cough, runny nose or red eyes, and a red blotchy rash that starts on the scalp, hairline, or behind the ears and spreads down the body. Monitor these symptoms through April 20 if you were at either location during the infected individual’s visit.

Great Wolf Lodge has assured guests that they are supporting the investigation and have found no ongoing concern for current or future visitors. For more information on measles, visit the Texas Department of State Health Services’ webpage.
