Measles Warning Issued Despite Vitamin A Benefits

Health officials in Greene County have issued a warning about measles, despite some people believing that vitamin A can help prevent the infection. However, experts say that while vitamin A may reduce complications from measles, it will not stop the spread of the disease.

According to health experts, the best way to protect against measles is through vaccination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that severe allergic reactions are rare with the MMR vaccine, and getting vaccinated is much safer than contracting measles, mumps, or rubella.

This year alone, there have been two confirmed deaths from measles in the US, according to the CDC. One death has already been reported, and another is under investigation. Health officials stress that measles is a serious illness that should not be taken lightly.

Kendra Findley with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department emphasizes the importance of vaccination: “Measles isn’t just a routine childhood illness that we shouldn’t be worried about. It is something we should be worried about… We need to protect our community, and that means having good vaccine levels.”
