Meet Nicole Aikens’ Kink Cafe: A Safe Space for Sex and Consent Conversations

Kink Cafe, a new Baltimore restaurant, aims to spark conversations about sex and consent in a safe and welcoming environment. Owner Nicole Aikens, who was raised without autonomy over her body, found solace in the BDSM community as an adult.

The cafe’s unique decor features items from Aikens’ past, including a bespoke leather neckband costing $600. The space also includes a mannequin with 6-inch heels and vibrant red shelves adorned with art pieces.

Aikens hopes to create a platform for people to discuss topics often stigmatized in mainstream society. “If you don’t like it, you don’t have to go through the doors,” says Ian Parrish, who owns the building and several other properties.

Kink Cafe’s menu includes pescatarian dishes with names inspired by sexual terms, such as Fellatio and Shibari. The restaurant also features entertainment events and “curiosity capsules” with provocative questions to encourage customer engagement.

Aikens’ nonprofit, I Survived Inc., aims to assist survivors of sexual abuse with counseling and advocacy lessons. Kink Cafe is her personal “survival story,” a space where customers can feel safe to discuss their desires and boundaries.
