Mega Evolution Explained in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is finally making its way to both Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch on October 16, 2025. To prepare fans, new details have emerged about how Mega Evolution works in the game. A returning feature from Pokémon X and Y, Mega Evolution allows certain creatures to transform into stronger forms.

Here’s a breakdown of the process:

* Opponent Pokémon drop Mega Energy orbs when they deal damage.
* The trainer must collect these orbs to fill the Mega Gauge.
* Once the gauge is full, you can Mega Evolve your Pokémon by pressing the right joystick.
* You can Mega Evolve multiple times per battle as long as you have collected enough Mega Power.
* Dealing damage and picking up energy orbs slowly refills your Mega Gauge.

However, be aware that Rogue Mega Evolved Pokémon will target you directly, making evasion crucial. The game’s difficulty has also increased compared to previous entries, so be prepared for a challenge.

One other notable feature is the presence of held items in Z-A, but with cooldowns. Natures and shops selling mints are also present, similar to Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

To get ready for the release, take a look at the Lumiose City map, which will give you an idea of what’s in store for this new installment in the series.
