A single ticket sold in California matched all six numbers from Friday night’s lottery drawing, resetting the Mega Millions jackpot to an estimated $20 million with a cash option of $9 million. No one won the top prize on Tuesday night’s drawing, but tickets purchased in Florida and Minnesota matched five numbers except for the Mega Ball.
To win any prize in Mega Millions, players only need to match one number, which must be the Mega Ball, worth $2. Matching two numbers also doesn’t guarantee a payout unless one of those numbers is the Mega Ball. Players who matched one or both of these numbers won $4 each.
The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday’s drawing resets to an estimated $42 million with a cash option of $18.8 million. The next drawing will take place on Tuesday, January 2nd, at approximately 10 p.m. CT. Tickets cost $2 per play, and players can add the Megaplier for an additional $1.
In 2024, Mega Millions has seen several major wins, including a record-breaking $1.13 billion jackpot won in New Jersey on March 26th, followed by $800 million won in Texas on September 10th, $560 million won in Illinois on June 4th, and another $1.22 billion won in California on December 27th.
For context, the all-time top 10 Mega Millions jackpots include a record-breaking $1.58 billion won in Florida on August 8th, 2023.
