Mega Millions Jackpot Surpasses $1 Billion for Christmas Eve Drawing

The Mega Millions jackpot has reached over $1 billion after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn on Christmas Eve. The estimated jackpot for Friday’s drawing is $1.15 billion, making it the fifth-largest in the game’s history. People lined up to buy tickets for Tuesday night’s drawing at a 7-Eleven store in Chino Hills near Los Angeles, hoping to strike luck.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350, while the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24. Tickets cost $2 each and half of the proceeds remain in the state where purchased. Drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.

The lead director for Mega Millions Consortium said that a jackpot of this size is a “gift” for those who receive tickets as holiday presents. With the game sold in 45 states, Washington D.C., and US Virgin Islands, millions have a chance to win big.
