A California resident is running out of time to claim their almost $200 million Mega Millions jackpot. The unclaimed ticket, purchased last year in Los Angeles, will expire on Saturday if not claimed by the deadline.
The ticket matched all six numbers sold at a Chevron gas station in Encino and is one of two tickets that won the jackpot. The other winner has already claimed their share, but the owner of this ticket remains unknown.
To claim the prize, the winner must visit one of nine California Lottery offices or mail a form online by December 7, 2024. If mailed, the form should be sent via certified mail with a copy kept for records.
If no one claims the prize in time, the $197 million will go towards supporting public education in California. The California Lottery spokesperson said that while it’s unfortunate for potential winners, the unclaimed funds ultimately benefit schools.
